Foreword

Note this before my notes:
There’s not a note of mine that’s worth the noting.

Much Ado About Nothing (II.iii)

Hello friends, welcome to a good ol’ fashioned personal blog.

A blog is simultaneously the most egregiously egotistical and modestly humble medium of publication the internet ever provided the common man.

The egoism of having an entire website dedicated entirely to the thoughts of a single individual; and yet, the humility of utter obscurity. The gall of refusing to share the attentional spotlight with algorithmically-selected strangers; but the purity of organic audience growth through genuine interest and generous sharing.

This is a rosy-colored picture, sure, but there must be some idealism or romanticism underlying any new venture—especially one as ill-conceived as an independent, un-SEOed, text-based weblog anno Domini 2025. So consider this platform my trusty Rocinante, carrying me into many futile ideological frays.

Here you will find notes on anything I happen to be doing or thinking which I deem worthy of writing down and sharing—primarily with people who already know who I am.

However, if you have somehow found yourself here and you don’t know who I am, these topics may range from my current or past reading or watching, film photography (among other hobbies), annotated life anecdotes, and possibly even some forays into original fiction. Thoughts related to business media (i.e. my real job) will be cross-posted from the content mint newsletter, and thoughts related to cinema will be cross-posted from The Filmlings. If you are interested in either of those topics exclusively, you can follow their respective outlets; but this will be a single commonplace for everything.

My first rule for creating and consuming internet content is, waste no one’s time. However, I make no guarantees that this blog will strictly maintain that principle. Subscribe/follow/attend responsibly.

That said, I have one request of you, dear reader. On the off-chance that I hereafter hit on anything which is especially of interest or of value to you, please let me know, or, better yet, think of someone else for whom it might be worth their while and let them know. Maybe even strike up a conversation about it. Such organic serendipity is a small way to surreptitiously undermine the reign of the algorithm in all of our lives.

Just mind the sails as you tilt.
